The Lake Superior College Foundation is offering Emergency Grants up to $1,000, while funding lasts, for LSC students (must be currently enrolled at LSC) who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic, can demonstrate a COVID-19 related financial need/hardship, and meet the eligibility criteria set by the LSC Foundation, Lake Superior College, the Minnesota State system, and state and federal requirements.

Please complete the form below to the best of your ability. The Lake Superior College Foundation will work with other departments at LSC, including the Financial Aid office and the Business Office, to determine if you are eligible and if funding is applicable under the CARES Act and/or the LSC Foundation Emergency Grant Fund process. If you are determined to be eligible, and funding is available, LSC Foundation staff will follow up with you to let you know if your application has been approved and explain next steps. Typically, these applications are reviewed each Monday during an academic semester and, if approved, are processed by Wednesday and students receive funding in their bank mobile account within the week after being approved. This cycle follows the financial aid cycle, and only applies during academic semesters. That means funds will not be processed until the 2nd or 3rd week of a semester, and will not be processed when there are not academic classes in session. So, if you apply prior the start of a semester, or in the first week of semester, and are awarded a grant, that grant will not be distributed until at least the second week of a semester.  The LSC Foundation cannot control when the funding will be disbursed. Most bank transactions require 2-3 business days, and sometimes longer.

Students may only receive emergency grant funding one time per semester, for a maximum of $1,000 per semester.  To be eligible, students must have and/or are experiencing a financial emergency as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Students who are not eligible for emergency grant funding at this time include: A) PSEO or concurrent enrollment students B) Students enrolled in non-credit classes and C). Students who have their tuition paid through employee waiver via Minnesota State.

Please contact the LSC Foundation directly at foundation@lsc.edu, or (218) 733-7707, if you have any questions or need assistance with the application. Please also understand that funding is limited and is a combination of funding provided by federal funding as well as generous contribution from donors to the LSC Foundation, including LSC employees, community and industry partners, alumni and others who believe in the mission of LSC/LSC Foundation and want to help support students. If you are awarded an emergency grant, please consider writing a thank you letter to help thank funders for their generosity and email that to foundation@lsc.edu. You can also tag LSC and/or LSC Foundation on social media so that we can help share your stories and show how impactful these generous donations really can be. Thank you letters and/or pictures can be emailed to foundation@lsc.edu, mailed to LSC Foundation, 2101 Trinity Road, Duluth, MN 55811, or dropped off at the front desk of the LSC Advancement and External Relations Department, S205.

We hope this funding will help you during this unique and challenging time. Several other resources are available at Lake Superior College including free counseling, advising, the LSC Food Shelf and more. Please let us know how we can be of support. We’re in this together IceHawks.
